We had a night out! Yeah! Renaissance Wine store was having a "Lesser Known Varietals" tasting, so Mom said she would watch Carl and we went out.

 

They were pouring 6 wines.

 

Felsner Gruner Veltliner 2003 (Austria)
Abacela Dolcetto 2004 (Oregon)
Casillero del Diablo Carmenere 2004 (Chile, by Concha y Toro)
Wilridge Nebbiolo 2001 (Washington)

Pascual Toso Malbec 2004 (Argentina)

Poggio Valente Morellino 2001 (Italy)

 

Unfortunately I did not take very good notes. Ok I took no notes so really notes will have to come from tasting again. The Veltliner was a white - it was lightly sweet. The rest were reds and we bought at least one of each. The Dolcetto was good from the start. I remember the Nebbiolo grew on me - I liked it more and more as I tasted more. The Morellino made me want Italian food a lot.

 

So we went out for Italian food at The Merchant of Venice after we purchased our wine.
